Friday, 26th May 2017

The Malaysia Airlines awesome Procurement Team were once again the talk of the town when they walked away with the Procurement Team Award at the Procurement Leaders' 11th annual World Procurement Awards.

Over 850 of procurement's elite came together at the Intercontinental - The O2, London, for the distinguished ceremony hosted by Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville to celebrate procurement excellence and recognise the most progressive teams and individuals in 15 categories from across the globe. Recognised as the most celebrated and sought after awards in procurement, the World Procurement Awards represent the best projects, people and organisations globally and are an affirmation of the hard work, innovation and dedication of those at the forefront of the profession.

This year saw a record number of entries from some of the most influential companies across 34 countries. Each submission endured the rigorous 3-stage judging process of online judging, peer review and face to face regional debate to ensure the winners are the best of the best. The panel of judges included CPOs and senior representatives from Brose, Ferrero, Danske Bank, Diageo, Hewlett Packard and Flex. Andreas Ruehe, VP Global Supply Chain at Johnson & Johnson commented that he had "Definitely been impressed by the quality of the entries this year which once again exceeded expectations."

Malaysia Airlines won big in the Procurement Team Award category which recognises the team that has worked together to achieve a significant goal. The team will have demonstrated initiative, creativity, and drive to be a positive force for change and improvement in their business. Judges looked for teams with a broad mix of skills, personalities and backgrounds which have worked together to drive world-class performance in procurement.

In winning the Procurement Team Award, Malaysia Airlines beat the following eight organizations that were shortlisted;

1. BT
2. Citrix Systems
3. EVO Group
4. Flex
5. Health Promotion Board
6. IBM
7. Scottish Government
8. UCB

This win is monumental for Malaysia Airlines as we are both the first Asian and Malaysian company to win. What's better is that we are also the first GLC to have ever won such an award. This win also comes on the heels of our win at the 2016 Procurement Leaders Asia Awards in Singapore, last November, where Malaysia Airlines received the Best Procurement Team accolade, beating five other contenders.

"We owe this international accolade to our #ProcurementIsAwesome team for an unprecedented level of relentless focus, grit, super hard work, and awesome attitude to drive high performance at world-class standards. Despite the Herculean tasks ahead in this incredible journey, this modest team has been fast adapting and aligning itself to organizational changes, yet contributes positively to our business results. We have certainly earned the recognition of our peers in the global procurement fraternity which now forms a strong impetus for us to reach for the stars. BOOYAH!" said Christina Ooi, Head of Procurement.
